Introducing - A Weekend with the HTC S740
Here it is, the HTC S740. First impressions? It's narrow, it's fast and the screen is vivid and clear. The S740 also appears to be called the "HTC Rose" in the settings screens and the firmware includes the HTC Album along with an RSS and PDF reader. Thankfully there's also a rather sexy HTC homescreen which you can see in action below. There's also lots of screenshots of the various tabs available with more coming shortly. I'll have a video blog online later this evening with more pictures. There'll also be some testing of the FM radio, WiFi, GPS and the camera along with a full tour of the unit. Read on for more photos and don't forget to get your questions in, I've only got a few days with this baby! Link - Devicewire.co.uk Read on and add your comments

A Week(end) with the HTC S740
Regular readers will hopefully be aware of our "Week With" video blogs. We've covered the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro. This time we've managed to get hold of the new HTC S740 that and we'll be doing it all over again. Unfortunately we don't have much time to play with this handset, so we're renaming the feature to "A Weekend With the HTC S740". ;) Get your questions in to us via the forum or email. The S740 is a rare beast, something we started to cover 6 years ago when Coolsmartphone appeared on the internet - a Microsoft Smartphone (aka "Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard"). The touch-screen devices seem to be all we write about now, so it'll be interesting to see how a non-touch-screen device performs in 2008. Devicewire will have these in stock fairly soon and you can get your name down now. The S740 is a quad-band handset with 3G, it's powered by a Qualcomm 528Mhz CPU and has 256MB ROM and RAM with a QVGA screen, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, 3.2 megapixel camera, FM radio, microSD card slot and 1000mAh battery. HTC S740
http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/...&g=1851&h=17701 "We sat down with HTC for a bit and talked about the new models for Sprint. They also showed us their latest kit for overseas, the most interesting of which was the S740, a messaging slider with unusual proportions. Unlike the other new messaging phones we saw this week that are unusually wide, the S740 takes the opposite approach and is freakishly skinny... We wish a US carrier would pick it up, but so far we're hearing there's no interest from them. It seems everyone is so obsessed with competing with the iPhone that non-touchscreen Windows Mobile Standard devices are being ignored. That's a shame. Not everyone is ready to abandon the familiar d-pad for a touch screen." Phone Scoop poses a very interesting question. With the release of the Apple iPhone, HTC Touch Diamond and soon the Google Android run devices, is the day of the non-touchscreen Smartphone slowly coming to an end? Personally I hope not. In most cases I prefer a non-touchscreen device though I have to admit lately I have been using my device less and less as I get more frustrated with the lack of more screen resolution to work with. Let's face it; you can't be terribly productive with less than 320x240 pixels of screen real estate to work with. In most cases if I have to reply to an email or look something up on the Interweb, I just wait until I get near my laptop instead of using my handset. Hopefully with the next version of Windows Mobile, Microsoft will realize the importance of giving both platforms the same maximum resolution. I would love to have a Smartphone with a screen resolution of 800x400 pixels.
