Nokia N82 gets Stuff.tv vote as top camera phone

Wed, 10 Sep 2008 09:48:47 -0700

Stuff.tv are pretty prolific in their video output, often visiting smartphone territory - in this show they look at 5 of the top camera-phones, including the Nokia N82. Despite not having as many (gimmicky?) features as the opposition, the N82 seemed to come out overall winner (if the other presenter could have picked it as well, I think she would have).

Wayne's World meets YouTube in Make.TV

Fri, 19 Sep 2008 10:42:00 -0700

If there are two things TechRadar can never get enough of, it's repeated bee stings to the inside of our eyelids and online amateur video. So imagine our delight when we heard about Make.TV, a web-based television production and broadcast service that its German developers are offering to the great unwashed for a free trial. The virtual TV studio seems impressively detailed, allowing you to hook up and switch between multiple cameras and video sources, chat with your various camera operators, integrate PowerPoint presentations or other media and even add Internet interactivity from any viewers you might lure in. Pr0n, of course It appears that Make.TV will host and stream your live (or recorded) programmes, which you can choose whether or not to charge for. The entire process is handled through your web browser, so you shouldn't even need a massively overpowered desktop machine to edit the footage. Somehow, the Make.TV team managed to write an entire press release without mentioning the adult entertaiment industry, focusing instead on the possibility of political groups airing their views and opera houses televising their concerts. Good luck with that guys. If Make.TV isn't a hotbed of interactive naughtiness within a couple of weeks, we'll eat our Emmys.

10% of UK will spend 14 years in front of TV

Fri, 19 Sep 2008 06:07:00 -0700

One in ten of us in the UK will spend over 14 years in front of our televisions with more than half regularly discussing the goggle box with our family and friends. Taking the average life expectancy of 78.7* years (we like a bit of precision), cable giant Virgin Media believes that 10 per cent of us spend the lion's share of a decade and a half as couch potatoes. Alarmingly, the same study discovered that 70 per cent of people admit that they 'often' sit in front of the television without caring too much what is on. Water-cooler moment? Still, at least it gives us something to talk about, with 52 per cent of us discussing television regularly with our loved ones. "There are currently more TV programmes than ever before, both on TV and on demand, but it seems some Brits still haven't broken free from the TV schedule, said Virgin Media's Ashley Stockwell. "Dipping in and out of live TV and TV on demand means that no one should be watching anything for the sake of it." But wait... Fortunately, Virgin Media does have the answer – and you may be shocked to learn that it is in fact its own service."With over 4,600 hours of TV programmes at our customers' fingertips through Virgin Media's TV on demand service, telly fans can watch what they want, when they want to," adds Stockwell. * Correct us if we're wrong but we reckon .7 of a year is 255.5 days.

Verizon promises increased interactivity for FiOS TV customers

Fri, 19 Sep 2008 18:33:00 -0700

Filed under: Home Entertainment With all this talk of interactive TV from the likes of Sony, Yahoo! and Intel these days, it's starting to seem like the early 90s all over again -- only this time it looks like things are actually panning out. Now Verizon seems to be upping its interactive game as well, with it boasting about a whole host of improvements that FiOS TV customers can look forward to this fall. The new features were apparently demoed during an "informal party" held by Verizon Communications CIO Shaygan Kheradpir, and include various applications that are tied to live programming, some Facebook and YouTube integration, and the ability to control the DVR from your cellphone, to name a few things. FiOS customers can apparently expect some improvements to the program guide as well, including the ability to browse by what's popular in their area, or by what was most popular in the same time slot last week. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like any pictures made their way out of the party, but Yahoo! and company have certainly raised the bar pretty high with their own widgets, and we can only hope that Verizon at least meets it. iPhone Remote App + Apple TV Plays Wrong Video Podcasts?

Thu, 18 Sep 2008 05:55:00 -0700

I typically choose to keep 10 episodes of any video podcast I subscribe to in iTunes. Back with version 1.0 of the Apple Remote App for the iPhone, when I would choose to play the latest episode of a show, the Apple TV would stubbornly start playing the oldest episode (sometimes oldest unwatched, sometimes just [...]
