Rumors: Verizon getting Touch Diamond in October, possibly in white

Fri, 19 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0700

So you never know with these things, but I got a tip about the Verizon version of the HTC Touch Diamond and figured I'd pass it along.  This is from a fairly new source who's been pretty accurate with a few *very minor* bits of information passed along to me over the past few weeks.  Let's throw this new tip to the lions, shall we, and see how it turns out: HTC Touch Diamond is be released for Verizon in OctoberCould end up as the new "Ice White" color scheme just released by HTC.  On to the specs............ Slower processor than current versions (400mhz) Larger battery (1340mhh) Larger rear cover (3mm thicker in total), due to larger battery. No internal memory; microSD support up to 32GBSame SDHC micro SD reader support as the Touch Pro. Frankly, I'd like to see an exact launch date and price point here, but since there's none I'm imagining a $249 price (on contract, after rebate) to compete with Sprint's version. What do you all think?  Worthy tip?  Already seen it elsewhere?  Total nonsense?  Who cares?  Air it out in the comments.

Free: Is Verizon Wireless readying contract-free services?

Wed, 17 Sep 2008 00:00:00 -0700

Looks like Big Red may be gearing up to offer services to all of you commitment-phobic types out there.  According to BGR, Verizon Wireless will start offering contract-free cellular services on September 21.  This will allow folks to use VZW on a month-to-month basis with their own devices or by paying full price for a new phone from Verizon. Basically this is good if you're a VZW customer who likes to try new phones as they come out and would rather pay full price for them than re-up for two more years of contracted service, OR if you've got a line on getting VZW devices via some other means (we won't ask, don't worry) and thus don't need to worry about getting a new Glyde at the "on contract price,"  This DOES NOT mean that you can call Sprint customer service, cancel your contract, and bring your Instinct over to Verizon to use on a month-to-month basis.  Although now that I think about it, it would be super cool to see a Helio Ocean running on VZW - just for the geek factor.  Verizon runs CDMA and Ocean is a CDMA device ... I wonder if it can be done.

Verizon to offer contract-free postpaid plans?

Wed, 17 Sep 2008 13:12:00 -0700

Filed under: Verizon WirelessThere's a rumor going around that Verizon is on the cusp of announcing that customers bringing their own equipment to the table (they are doing that whole open network thing, after all) or who are willing to pay full price for their goods up front will be able to go contract-free on postpaid accounts. There'll still be an activation fee and a credit check since we're still talking about a postpaid setup, but you'll have the freedom to walk away or upgrade hardware at any time your carefree heart desires without dealing with an ETF or a pesky contract extension. If this all goes down -- which it probably will, assuming Verizon's interested in keeping up with the industry trend here -- word is we can expect an announcement on the 21st of the month.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

When will Verizon and Sprint Get the iPhone

Fri, 12 Sep 2008 11:01:03 -0700

Apple’s exclusive agreement for at&t to carry iPhone is supposed to end sometime in 2009. However, at&t has made so much (so does Apple) from selling the iPhone exclusively, they are very happy to extend the agreement for one more year, which will bring the date to sometime in 2008. That’s good for those who [...]
