Visual Voicemail Service Available Now

Wed, 13 Aug 2008 12:47:12 -0700

In my last post, I discussed the potential of Verizon's new Voyager phone that will bring visual voicemail to the masses. It turns out this concept is already alive and well through a service called PhoneTag. The concept is simple: Those of us who would rather skip long, drawn-out voice messages by reading them instead of listening to them can have PhoneTag automatically transcribe voicemail to text and best of all this one works with all major U.S. carriers (including Verizon) and offers up unlimited voicemail storage. PhoneTag's platform automatically converts voice messages to text and delivers them to customers via email and/or SMS text. The message also includes an attached audio file of the original message and can be accessed through PhoneTag's user platform. The service allows the user to scroll through their messages without having to listening to each individually. All pertinent information is recorded in the email, which means it's searchable, achievable, and easily accessible. Users can forward, delete or respond to the voicemail message. The service, available now, is $9.95/month for 40 messages. For more info click here. See full article. Verizon Visual Voicemail is a Go

Tue, 12 Aug 2008 06:41:31 -0700

Kicking things off with the LG Voyager, Verizon Wireless has just gone live with its visual voicemail service. No doubt inspired by the iPhone though Apple was hardly the first to introduce such a service (just ask its legal team), Verizon’s new service allows users to listen to voicemail messages by navigating through a visual [...]

On disabling voicemail on the iPhone

Sat, 16 Aug 2008 09:11:00 -0700

The iPhone doesn't let you disable voicemail easily, which is annoying. When traveling abroad, it's also expensive. Fortunately, there are standard GSM codes that may do this for non-AT&T iPhone users who like to travel. Read More...

Singaporean iPhone 3Gs drop visual voicemail, iTunes

Thu, 21 Aug 2008 12:37:00 -0700

Filed under: Handsets, GSM, EDGE, HSDPA, UMTS, AppleJust how badly do you want the iPhone 3G, Singapore? Badly enough to do without two of its headline features? SingTel kicks off sales today (local time) along with a whole host of other countries, but neither visual voicemail nor the iTunes WiFi Store will make the cut. In the case of iTunes, the reason is kinda obvious: Singapore has no iTunes Store at all, and it never has. The explanation behind the mysterious absence of visual voicemail is less clear, other than carrier laziness in getting the feature implemented on its back end. The silver lining here seems to be pricing, though -- subscribers will be able to pick up the phone for diddly squat, assuming they sign up for a S$205 monthly package (about $145).[Via mocoNews]Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Visual Voicemail Patent Holder Sues Verizon Wireless And Eight Other Companies

Tue, 26 Aug 2008 16:34:24 -0700

If there is a lock on visual voicemail, Judah Klausner holds the key. The inventor has protected a series of patents he holds with tenacity and a track record to back it up. This time he's going after Google (NSDQ: GOOG), Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ), LG Electronics (SEO: 066570), Comverse Technology, Citrix Systems, Embarq, Cox Communications, PhoneFusion and RingCentral, Reuters reports. Klausner filed his latest patent infringement lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Tyler, Tex. Tuesday, involving "visual voicemail" patents he holds in various countries dating as far back as 1992. Verizon has filed its own pre-emptive suit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York earlier this month. Two months ago, Apple, *AT&T and eBay* all settled a similar suit filed by Klausner in December. He's also sued and won settlements from Time Warner, AOL (NYSE: TWX) and Vonage Holdings. Comcast settled on a licensing deal with Klauser, he told Reuters, and he remains in talks with Cablevision. Sprint Nextel made no mistake about it; without ever being sued the carrier signed a licensing deal with Klausner that covers the voicemail features on its Samsung Instinct. In a barrage of suits filed last December, Klauser said he was seeking $360 million in damages and royalties from seven companies. The new lawsuit targets nine companies. Klausner says "not so fast," sues Verizon and LG over visual voicemail

Tue, 26 Aug 2008 18:15:00 -0700

Filed under: Software, LG, Verizon WirelessSo patent holding firm Klausner Technologies figures it has this whole litigation thing down to a T at this point, having already sued a who's-who of companies having anything to do with visual voicemail in the past and ultimately coming away with a whole bunch of lucrative license agreements for its efforts (eleven, to be exact). Needless to say, any new company that tries to break into the game at this point is probably going to get treated with the same warm, fuzzy love, and Verizon and LG are experiencing that firsthand. Klausner has announced that it has filed suit against both companies in Texas federal court, presumably in response to Big Red's recent launch of the refreshed Voyager featuring visual voicemail software on board. Given the track record Klausner has, guys, you might just want to cut to the chase here and pay up.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
